The city is the campus!
Once a mining and metalworking town, Leoben is today a cultural center and university town as well as one of Austria`s – and Europe`s – most tradition- rich economic locations. Over the course of a history, stretching back more than 1,000 years, Styria`s second-largest town has succeeded in consolidating it's role as the crossroads of the region. Leoben has changed – new concepts, projects, plans, ideas and goals have been realised or are being developed that are shaping our town.
The mining University's renowned research facilities and numerous high-tech buisnesses (both of which combine old and new knowledge, techniques and skills), along with the area's newly defined cultural objectives, are bringing the town to international attention. Leoben is demonstrating that culture can exist perfectly well outside large metropolises and that it is also an important economic factor because of it's ability to increase the attractiveness of a location.
To borrow the traditional miners`greeting: „Glück auf!“
