The Montanuniversität Leoben has always been part of an international community. Student and teacher exchanges are an increasingly important aspect on the international education market.
Students must be given the opportunity to work in an international environment either through an enhanced international focus in class or by providing them with access to exchange programs. International programs prepare them for their occupational activities in an international setting. Students of the Montanuniversität Leoben benefit from a wide array of exchange opportunities. The most flexible program, since it is not based on the students’ academic performance, is the Socrates/Erasmus exchange with over 40 partner universities in the EU. Participation in similar exchange programs outside the EU is subject to a selection process assessing student performance, personality, and linguistic skills. More than 60 universities worldwide participate in such schemes. The Montanuniversität Leoben is continuously striving to enlarge this offer. For example by signing a cooperation act with Kunming University of Science and Technology in China in 2007, or by initiating a cooperation agreement with the University of Newcastle, Australia. The Montanuniversität Leoben was awarded the opportunity, together with the TU Vienna, to organize the annual meeting of the GE4 program (partner universities in the US, Asia, and Latin America) to be held in Leoben in 2008. This will allow us to introduce the university personally to representatives of the partner institutions.
Increasing the number of incoming and outgoing students requires an optimum web presence, which is why the website was redesigned for both international and domestic students and a list of courses offered in English was added for incoming students. This offer is, however, still limited, especially in the bachelor program, and will be expanded accordingly.
